Our latest news update

We send out regular emails to our members. Here's the latest from 8th July...

Summer's here, Wimbledon has finished and the weather's breaking.  Well may be we are in the “silly season” for National News, but the Optical Industry is still active.  None more so than at Silhouette who this week announce a new marketing manager. No rest for practitioners either who have further opportunities to gain new business intelligence and skills from the free series of webinar lectures which have been extended through till mid-August. Still on the IT front, an Edinburgh optician has launched an app for the iPad2 at the Apple store.

The BCLA have chosen MACS as their Charity of the Year 2011-12. MACS the Micro and Anophthalmic Children’s Society is now listed on our charity page and you can read more about their future events on the new dedicated page.

We have also added
Sight Aid International to our Charity Listing.  If you are involved with a vision charity or a support group and would like its details published then please send us information about it. ORBIS International's Flying Eye Hospital have also provided us with news of direct action in Mongolia.

Norville announce a new
WECO catalogue publication and Silhouette refresh their Zenlight brand with new colours.  The effects of Lanaway’s appointment mentioned earlier already seem to be taking effect with the launch of a major trade promotion by Silhouette to reward customers for increased sales growth.

While news is somewhat scant this week it has given PHN the chance to modify and improve your fortnightly update which now allows us to feature and thank our advertising supporters by publishing their logos.

This provides PHN with a good opportunity to thank our existing supporters and to welcome two new companies,
Spectrum-Thea, the dry-eye specialists who have provided a new clinical briefing on Blepharitis, and Shamir, whose pages are currently being developed.   Both companies have chosen to use the public site to demonstrate their products and services, and direct the public to stockists; as well supporting the professional site to provide professionals with in depth information.

Finally to any students reading our update,
you have less than a week left to register with the GOC, otherwise you will be charged extra fees.
